Currently, Jaap Vente is working as Technology Transfer Manager with a special focus membrane technology in the group Sustainable Process Technology. Within this group, activities include materials research, system development, process design and implementation facilitation. Specific membranes that are being developed and brought to commercialisation include HybSi® (www.hybsi.com) and HySep® (www.hysep.com). He is also director of the cluster Gas Separation and Treatment within the Institute of Sustainable Process Technology (www.ispt.eu). Within this national cluster private and public parties work together on innovative technologies.
Jaap was originally educated in materials science and engineering at the Delft University of Technology.
For his Ph.D. he moved to the University of Leiden to study complex iridium oxides. Subsequently, he accepted a position of post-doctoral research assistant at the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory of the University of Oxford, in 1994. Four years later, he moved to Mexico to become an investigator at CINVESTAV. In 2003, he returned to the Netherlands and started to work at ECN on membrane technology. He has published over 80 papers in peer reviewed journals, two book chapters and filed five patents. He was the co-chair of the International Conference on Inorganic Membranes in 2012.
